Minimalist Desert Illustration

6/23/2020

I has been planning to get this creative and learning project started for a while and had been researching various subject matters. Inspired by the stunning namibian desert, I am finally starting this exploration of a more minimalist illustration style.

Tapping into principles equally significant in graphic design, editorial design and photography, the genre has been trending in recent years. The iconic work of Malika Favre immediately comes to mind and is a leading source of inspiration for me.

A few leading principles will be guiding the journey started with this art piece: seeking extreme minimalism in terms of lines and shapes, making use of negative space to suggest, choosing bold and minimal colors palettes.

For this Namib desert theme, the minimal line work and highly contrasted color scheme are meant to suggest the complexity and intricacy of the sand dunes topography in the simplest visual form. I also forced myself to work with only 4 colors.
