Scarce swallowtail butterfly feeding on lavender

Butterflies, lavender and golden light

Vacation is always a good time to experiment with different photography genres and train one’s eye to a variety of situations.

This scarce swallowtail butterfly feeding on lavender under late afternoon light was looking too good to pass up the chance. Too bad I hadn’t packed a macro lens to get really close. Luckily my all-terrain 70-200mm filled in nicely for this impromptu assignment and cropping was not an issue with all the megapixels available.
